Hi Parents,

Starting this week, we will be posting to our First Grade BLOG.  Rochelle, Robert’s mom, has agreed to help-- with her official title being “technology mom”.  Through this BLOG we will try to keep you updated on what’s going on in our room by posting every couple of weeks.  I hope you enjoy and here we go.

We are working on numbers to 10.  We are using number bonds, taking numbers apart and putting them together again.  We are discussing, Part, Part, Whole and beginning to add.  In this photo, the kids are working with work mats and manipulatives (in this case cookie jars and cookies).

These apples that you see was a project to learn about labeling which is one of the Common Core Standards we teach in first grade.

The last picture, which didn’t come out very well because I was taking it into the light, is a response activity to go along with the book Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash.  This is a book about rhyming words.  The children all chose something to hang out on the clothesline and wrote 3 words that rhymed with their thing.

We want to congratulate Quinn and his family.  Their new baby girl, Scarlett, is beautiful!  We got pictures today and Quinn is a very proud big brother.  We hung the pictures in the front of the room and at one point I caught Quinn just staring at them and smiling.  It was so darn cute!

The week after next, the Enrichment Homework will begin for those of you who have been waiting.

I can’t possibly put everything we do on the BLOG, but I will try to give you a good sample each time.
